I didn't pay much attention to the various goings-on at the Edwards trial, and looking back, it was probably a wise thing to do since the whole enterprise struck me as a case of badly misplaced priorities. Put another way: someone will need to explain to me what public good the Justice Department thought it was serving by devoting so much time and manpower to prosecuting a guy for the crime of Terminal Assholism in the First Degree when there are plenty of genuinely dangerous felons running free in our midst. Regardless, while Edwards's public persona was always bit too "slick" for my liking, I never had a problem with the guy's politics. And now more than ever, I still don't.
