You can see why they'd be a little leery to bring up the subject:
Yet another reason why a massive public-works program would have been a great idea three years ago. And it still would now! But the only people who were suggesting it were the same bunch of filthy hippies who were right about the Iraq war, global warming, and the consequences of deregulation, so our serious and responsible policymakers did the only serious and responsible thing they could do---print a couple of trillion dollars to pad the banks' balance sheets instead of using the money to put people back to work. Scarier thought, our only viable alternative will be even worse than the current regime.
