Barn burning aside, I fail to see how after 20 years you can still argue for compromise and consensus with people who don't believe in compromise and consensus while reminding us that all of the potential points of agreement with them, i.e., their legislative agenda, would be destructive to our economy and poisonous to the commonweal. This Third Way bullshit is the reason why Team Democrat has lost its ideological bearings and why our political discourse has been bullied ever rightward for an entire generation. It also has the unpleasant effect of drowning out principled voices within the party that need to be heard because what they're arguing is basically, well, right. I'm sure the Beltway chattering class was thrilled to relive the glory days when they could uncritically channel right-wing butthurt before there was a reality-based blogosphere around to call them out for it, but for me, this was kind of like reliving a bad dream all over again.
Also too, compromise and consensus.
