Cue the next round of butthurt outrage:
Alleged Boston Bombing mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was receiving government welfare in the years before he and his brother turned on the state of Massachusetts and allegedly killed 3 people and injured more than 200, the state confirmed today.Tsarnaev and his wife, Katherine Russell, both received welfare benefits for their family, which included their young daughter, until they stopped meeting income eligibility requirements in 2012, according to the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services.
Why does this matter? Why would any reporter even think of asking about it unless they were looking for something else they could use to vilify people? I mean, it's completely irrelevant to anything they are accused of doing, so why bring it up at all? Because all it means, basically, is that they were poor people.
Of course, what should be the real source of outrage is buried at the bottom of the story:
Russell’s attorney told the Boston Herald that Katherine Russell was working up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tsarnaev stayed at home.
Because you can work 80 hours a week and legally qualify for assistance because your job doesn't pay any money. Our policymakers should obviously do something about this, but you know they probably won't.
