If we consider the idea that perhaps we're not really bombing the Syrians because we want to bomb the Syrians but because we want to bomb the Syrians' BFFs in the region to show how steadfast and resolute we are, or something. It makes no more sense than bombing Syria for the sake of bombing Syria, and it's impossible to see what it will accomplish to hasten the end of hostilities or why our strategic interests are so tied to showing the BFFs what tough badasses our leaders are. I guess what's ultimately so mystifying about this insane gambit is that if it all goes according to the script, there's no clear winner---at least, not that I can discern. (And no, I really don't really think that our Friends in Freedom are "winners" in this case scenario, just that they and their friends in Washington probably think they will win some sort of victory if they can get the U.S. to strike a blow against Hezbollah or whomever is on their shit list over there. It's all genuinely insane, regardless.)
