To be fair, the essay isn't as offensive as the headline makes it sound, but why can't we raise the minimum wage and provide more tax credits for poor people and have a government jobs program---better yet, with automatic union membership---that guarantees full employment? Why do we need to prioritize? Because frankly, we need all of these things in at least some measure, and we have the wherewithal to make them all happen. We simply lack the political will.
