I don't fly very often anymore, but when I did, I often noticed that one of the biggest reasons why departing flights were delayed was due to the amount of time required to board all the passengers, a process that was slowed immensely by people clogging up the aisles and impeding the passenger flow by trying to stuff obviously-too-big carry-on bags into the overhead storage bins. Sure, nobody likes to check in their bags (especially when you have to pay for it) or wait around the baggage claim after a long flight, but it seemed to me that the airlines were way too lenient in how much stuff they let people carry onboard. Personally, if I ran the show, I wouldn't allow you to carry anything bigger than a laptop onto a plane, but hey, that's just me.
