Sooner or later, we will come to the realization that we will, in all likelihood, need to sacrifice economic growth for many years in order to save the planet from mass extinction events. That's going to exacerbate our long-term unemployment problem, and to ensure that sharp reduction in aggregate demand doesn't collapse the economy altogether, we will need to ensure that everyone has enough money to cover their basic needs: Food, shelter, health care, etc. Whether we print more money, raise taxes on rich people, or mint a platinum coin is a secondary concern. The rest of this century promises to be a rough ride, so government should make its citizens' lives as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
